Ken That's correct, they are under the control of the utility. I would call you elect co rep and ask him there rational Tom Ricci Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T -----Original Message----- From: "Ken Rodgers" <Ken at artisanbilt.com> Date: Mon, 1 Dec 2008 07:00:20 To: 'Bryan Holland'<bholland at cityofnorthport.com>; <codetalk at myfloridacode.com> Subject: Re: [Florida Code Talk] Anchoring Transformers These transformers serve a condo and sit right next to the driveway for each building they serve. Are you saying there is no code requirements for such a setup if the power company owns them? I find that hard to believe. As for the wind pressure dynamics, I fully understand it's different...I was being somewhat sarcastic in my previous statement. If so, neither FBC nor the NEC has any jurisdiction over the installation of this equipment. If the transformer is privately owned, installation requirements would be based on the manufacturer's installation instructions. Section 110.3(B) of the NEC could be cited. The uplift and wind pressure dynamics on a dwelling are much different than those on low profile, ground based objects. While anchoring is still an important consideration and mandated by the codes for various equipment, it is not even remotely comparable to other structures and buildings. The power company says it does not bolt these to the slab even though the box does have bolt flanges at the bottom for bolting. I'm trying to find something (code or otherwise) that states the requirement to actually use the supplied bolt holes to secure the transformer to the slab. The power company just says that because it weighs 2,000 lbs it's not going anywhere and thus they don't bolt it. I guess using that rationale then we don't need to bolt houses down to the foundation. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
