[Florida Code Talk] Pre-cast Masonary Lintels

As I understand it, the primary method of lintel specification is by
reference to the Miami-Dade NOA and the Florida product approval
certification number. While the initial certification of these products
is supported by engineering analysis, once the product receives approval
it does not require site specific engineering. In this sense it is not a
pre-engineered item.

As a secondary method of specification, the product approval rule does
not prevent an engineer from doing site specific engineering on all
lintels. If the intended application exceeds the limits of the original
approval by span or by loading or by some other significant deviation
then site specific engineering would be required. In this case the
engineering documents submitted for permit would need to specify the
construction and use of the lintel.
