Agreed. 509.1 General. Existing mechanical systems undergoing alteration shall comply with Section 301.11 of the Florida Building Code, Mechanical. (Note that the definition of level 1 alteration includes replacement of existing equipment.) 301.11 Repair. Defective material or parts shall be replaced or repaired in such a manner so as to preserve the original approval or listing. You are performing a Level 1 alteration. The code says that you can not make the building less safe or less energy efficient than it already is. You can not install a unit that weighs more than 105% of the prior unit without evaluating the structure supporting the replaced equipment.
