[Florida Code Talk] Protecting Exposed Floor Insulation in home built on piers

I am hoping a codetalk member may have a good solution here.

Have a customer with a wood frame home built on piers. There are Fiberglas batts wedged between the floor joist (no paper) for the floor insulation. Home has 2' to 5' of crawl space height. The perimeter is enclosed with plastic lattice.

Homeowner noticed insulation was down in several areas. To solve problem homeowner installed chicken wire stapled to bottom of floor joist.

Homeowner now realizing that rodents love their new home with chicken wire floor cushioned by the insulation. Bigger rodents have been able to pull down the chicken wire in places for access.

My guess is that the original problem of having the fiberglass batts drop was caused by rodents moving around using the house wiring and plumbing for support and now they have the chicken wire for support.

Obviously, we could replace the chicken wire with a solid barrier such as PT plywood or a heavy wire mesh but that eliminates the ability to inspect for termites.

Rodents will dig under any perimeter barrier and I would think they will dig through any spray foam insulation.

Does anyone have experience with this problem ? What's the best solution?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Sincerely,
