You can find the code section on line at http://www.ecodes.biz/ecodes_support/Free_Resources/Florida_Codes/2007_Flori da_Errata/PDFs/2007_FL_EXIST%20BLDG_Chpt%2016_1.pdf Hope this helps, Tim Cooprider 21st Century Fabrication, Inc. http://www.21stcenturyfabrication.com 8304 NW 8th Way Boca Raton, FL 33487 Phone: 561-756-2145 Fax: 561-988-9578 -----Original Message----- From: codetalk-bounces at myfloridacode.com [mailto:codetalk-bounces at myfloridacode.com] On Behalf Of codetalk-request at myfloridacode.com Sent: Wednesday, December 09, 2009 12:00 PM To: codetalk at myfloridacode.com Subject: CodeTalk Digest, Vol 52, Issue 8 Send CodeTalk mailing list submissions to codetalk at myfloridacode.com To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://myfloridacode.com/mailman/listinfo/codetalk or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to codetalk-request at myfloridacode.com You can reach the person managing the list at codetalk-owner at myfloridacode.com When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of CodeTalk digest..." Florida gable end bracing? and you will get several sites that give you step by step instructions on how to complete this and they are put out by the Florida Division of Emergency Management. "By His Grace" Dave From: codetalk-bounces at myfloridacode.com [mailto:codetalk-bounces at myfloridacode.com] On Behalf Of Cbreezewalker at aol.com Sent: Tuesday, December 08, 2009 11:01 AM To: codetalk at myfloridacode.com Subject: [Florida Code Talk] Wind Mitigation Inspections Folks, It seems that the Florida insurance industry has determined that a very high percentage of the wind mitigation inspection reports (principally done by state contractors, with state dollars, under a state program) contain errors that result in insured's receiving excessive credits against otherwise applicable premium costs. Of course the insurance industry is upset and is undertaking a program of re-inspection on their nickel (or in the case of Citizens?our nickel again - probably $60 million of 'em) in the belief that getting the inspections correct will eventually offset the costs of re-inspections. And they're probably correct! As a small licensed contractor, I?ve been called on several times to conduct wind mitigation inspections and believe that I have completed them without error. However, I have reviewed my work and now realize that I actually can't say ? as regards gable end bracing ? what meets the minimum requirements of the 2004 FBC. And worse yet, I can?t find the specs in the FBC. Can a building official ? or anybody else ? point me to the section of code that will educate me on that point, or better yet, just tell me in plain English, what is required? (residential reroofs). We require a bare deck so that that the nailing can be verified (8d ring shank 6? and 6?etc.) we are located in 100 and 110 mph wind zone. We give a 2 hour window and are usually on site within the first 15 minutes of the requested window . Of course roofers tell us that ?no other city or county is requiring this, they allow us to dry in and then they spot check? H.
