I've looked at 3 homes in the last couple weeks that are all in the V zone, requiring break away walls. When the walls break away, all of these homes now have a large opening in the underside of the living space floor that's open to wind pressure. The opening is for the stairway from the ground level to the living space. In one case, the interior walls of the garage will now be exposed to wind pressure. No one seems to have considered this issue. Has anyone seen a design that deals with this? I'm not sure how you could meet FEMA requirements and wind pressure requirements at the same time. . .
