In a message dated 1/15/2009 6:54:25 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, m_renne at bellsouth.net writes: I am still looking through the residential Building code book and can not find a minimum distance between counters in a galley kitchen does anyone know this ? This is not a "from the code" answer, But a few years ago, while trying to design the least expensive house plan and "kitchen" that I could build, I used one practical criteria as follows: Since the Code does require residential hallways to be a minimum of 3', I used the same criteria for the kitchen "between countertops" clearance of 3'. As far as roominess goes, gram ma always said, "you can't have 2 cooks in the kitchen". So, my design was based upon gram ma's rule of one cook in the kitchen. Is there such a thing as being "gram-mothered-in"?
