I seek additional input on this matter, please. Okay, here¹s more refined information. The project is on the ocean, and the system in question faces east. There is a storefront, eight feet wide by eight feet tall, which contains a 3¹ wide glass/aluminum door that swings out and also has two fixed sections. The original storefront was removed completely, then re-installed with this new assembly. Four feet in front of this system is an additional, new, storefront wind screen to minimize wind on the new door. The windscreen is totally new, not a replacement. No permits were issued. No inspections made. No product approval. The glass is not impact resistant, and there are no shutter systems on the existing building. This door is not part of a means of egress. There are no exit signs. It is the end of a short corridor with vending machines that accesses the pool area. In fact, the wind screen mentioned above, has a pool gate closing off the access to this new storefront assembly from the pool deck. In addition, the interior¹ side of the storefront assembly is open to the exterior¹ on the other side of the building, as it is really a just a breezeway to the parking and outdoor corridor access for the building. There are several stories of building over this little access point. I hope I haven¹t confused anyone so far. I¹d send a picture, but I don¹t want to implicate anyone....yet. I tested the door for HC push/pull forces and for closing speeds in accordance with the codes, and all the information you all sent already. The push/pull is around six pound (less than the eight max allowed), and the closing speed is slower than the three second minimum in the code, all the way to close, without any abrupt closer forces during the last 3 inches. Okay, big questions: Since the storefront assembly isn¹t protecting interior spaces, or part of the envelope structure/protection, and since it¹s not a means of egress: Does it still have to be impact resistant glass, or shuttered? Did it still require permits (dumb question, I know)? I¹m guessing that it still has to meet HC requirements. But does it need to comply with any other egress requirements? Thank you all...again.
