To Anyone, The college has purchase a two-story duplex in St. Petersburg that we plan to lease to international students. The units are two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living room, the college is only replacing the windows, updating the kitchen, replacing electrical receptacles, and painting the units. My question is are we required to put in both a fire alarm system and fire sprinklers into this existing structure when we are not making any major modification to the existing building. Just for clarification all other life safety and building codes are incompliance with the existing structure and since the building is classified as an R-2 Occupancy the code is not quite clear under the FBC for Existing Buildings as it just states that you need to maintain the level of fire protection provided. Any help on clarifying this for us is appreciated. Thanks, John L. Evans, AIA, CBO College Architect & Certified Building Official St. Petersburg College Phone # (727) 341-3262 P Think Green!
