http://www.icc-es.org/News/NR061709_Hanson.pdf Approval of ICC-ES Validated Product by Florida Building Commission is a Milestone When manufacturers need to demonstrate their products meet the requirements of Florida's construction codes, a product evaluation and validation is required. The ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), a newly recognized "validation entity" of code compliant products in Florida, has received its first-ever notification of approval by the state's Building Commission for an ICCES- evaluated and validated product. As an independent evaluator sanctioned by the Florida legislature, ICC-ES also was eligible to register to validate products that meet its strict testing requirements for code compliance. The dual role of ICC-ES is an added value for ES report holders, providing a cost-saving, turnkey service for manufacturers seeking evaluation and validation that their products are code compliant in Florida. Products approved by the Florida Building Commission as evaluated and validated are acceptable to every Florida jurisdiction that fall within the scope of the evaluation reports. The first product evaluated and validated by ICC-ES to be compliant with Florida's codes is Hanson Roof Tiles. Hanson has an ICC-ES Evaluation Report (ESR-1775 http://www.icces. org/reports/pdf_files/ICC-ES/ESR-1775.pdf ) covering concrete roof tiles with the designations of Hacienda, Hanson Flat, Regal, Provenance Flat and Venetian. Hanson sought approval with the state of Florida for the designations listed in the report, with the exclusion of Provenance Flat. Hanson also has an ICC-ES supplemental report verifying its products comply with the Florida Building Code. Because Hanson already had an ICC-ES Evaluation Report, ICC-ES was required to only perform an administrative validation for the state. The validation included: confirmation that Hanson has a current ICC-ES Evaluation Report with a Florida supplement; verification that the manufacturer's instructions provided are in accordance with the evaluation report; and that a quality assurance program audited by a Florida Building Commission-approved, third-party quality assurance agency is in place. A nonprofit, public-benefit corporation, ICC-ES is the United States' leading evaluation service for innovative building materials, components and systems. The ICC-ES Evaluation Reports and PMG Listing Program provide evidence that products and systems meet requirements in codes and standards. The ICC-ES SAVE Program provides verification that products have been independently verified as having the sustainable attributes claimed by the manufacturer to develop and advance sustainable design and construction. ICC-ES is a subsidiary of the International Code Council. For more information about ICC-ES, visit www.icc-es.org.
