I agree with TRH.  It doesn't matter if the shutter is 12' away or 1/2'' away from the door.  The principal is still the same, the door must meet the wind load rating.

  The door is required to meet the C&C pressures for the opening.  Impact protection for LMI or SMI is a different critter.  But the Pella rated pressure has to be equal or higher then the C&C opening pressure.

  I have a customer that wants to have installed a Pella sliding patio door unit, This particular door is not allowed in the 140C zone, but the patio has roll down hurricane shutters with interior supports. The existing door that will be removed is not high impact glazing, and the replacement door will also not have high impact glazing. will this replacement be allowed utilizing the existing hurricane shutters, It is a condo unit porch.
