Subject: 2010 FBC Code Change 45 Day Review/Comment Period

 To All Interested Parties:

2010 Update to the Florida Building Code

Consideration of the Code Change Proposals [45dayreviewperiod]

Code change proposals are now available for review and comment. The
proposed changes consist of changes to the 2009 I Codes as the
foundation to the 2010 Florida Building Code and the Florida specific
requirements currently existing within the 2007 FBC. The deadline for
making comment on the code change proposals is May 31, 2010 (the end of
the 45 day comment period).

To review the proposed code changes or submit comment on a proposed code
change, please visit the link (below) and then follow the instructions
listed below:

http://www.floridabuilding.org/c/default.aspx

Submitting a comment on a Mod. One can submit either a general comment
or an alternate language to the proposed code modification:

General comments are for any comment that doesn't include alternate
language. This section is a Text box for users to either cut and paste
into or type live.

There is also a 'Needs Help' file here with information in case you get
stuck.

If you find a mod that you feel would be improved if it had different
language you can submit an alternate language comment. Once you click
on "Submit a Comment on a Code Modification", select the Alternate
language radio button. You will be taken to a search screen. Search
for the Mod you wish to comment on and scroll to the bottom and click on
"Submit Comment"

Here add the text of the Modification as the text of the Comment.

Note: You may receive periodic emails to inform you of the status of
your Mods so it is a good practice to look for these emails from
Department of Community (DCA) staff and the automated website emails.

Searching for Mods: If you do not know the mod number you can search by
other parameters.

You can select the criteria by which you wish to search for mods. You
can start as low as the mod number or go broader to search by TAC or
search the widest by the 2010 code. In most cases selection is done by
a group, i.e. by TAC, by section of the code, proponent etc. These can
greatly narrow down your results to just a few mods. If your search
returns no results, remove some of your selected variables until you get
the desired results.

1. From the homepage go to "Proposed Code Modifications".

2. Click on "Find a Proposed Code Modification".

3. Select the criteria by which you wish to select, in this case,
select "TAC" > "Code Administration" from the dropdown menu.

4. Then click "search"

5. Once you have found the mod you want to comment on make a note
of the number and from the homepage select "Proposed Code Modifications"
>" Submit Comment On Proposed Code Modification"

Keep in mind the more fields you fill in the less and less results you
will get. This can be sometimes good, sometimes not.

Printing Reports and Tracking Charts: In addition to searching you can
also print search results as a report. For example if you wish to print
all mods assigned to a specific TAC you would do the following:

1. From the homepage go to "Proposed Code Modifications"

2. Click on "Find a Proposed Code Modification"

3. Click on the radio button for "Crystal Report" at the top of the
screen

4. Select the criteria by which you wish to select, in this case we
will do by TAC, so select "TAC" > "Code Administration" from the
dropdown.

5. Then select "Generate Report".

6. Make sure your popup blocker is off.

7. Many different export options for the report are available in
the upper left of the report.

8. We recommend using the "editable" and the "data only" versions
of the report if you wish to modify them in Word or Excel.

9. Different options of reports are available under "Report Type".
The summary option will not be available until all mods have been
before the TACs

VERY IMPORTANT

If you submitted a code change that referenced a standard, you need to
send a copy of the proposed standard to staff and to each committee
member that will be considering the proposed code modification. It is
the responsibility of the proponent to make the reference standard
available to the committee members. Not providing copies of the
proposed reference standard to both staff and committee members could
result in the proposal not being considered by the committee. Staff
will not send copies of the proposed reference standards to the
committee members. For sending a copy of the reference standard to
staff, please mail or email the standard to:

Ms. Marlita Peters
2555 Shumard Oak Boulevard
Tallahassee, Florida 32399-2100
or
 <mailto:Marlita.Peters at dca.state.fl.us> Marlita.Peters at dca.state.fl.us

To send copies of the reference standards to committee members for the
various committees please see their names, addresses, and email on the
web site at the following link.
<http://www.dca.state.fl.us/fbc/committees/1_committees.htm>
http://www.dca.state.fl.us/fbc/committees/1_committees.htm.

If you have any questions regarding the code change process or making
comments on the proposals, please contact us. We will be glad to
provide assistance to you in the code development process.

Thank you,

Mo Madani/Joe Bigelow/Marlita Peters
