This was the reply that I obtained. I think it speaks for itself. And justifies my position even more. ------ Forwarded Message From: Richard <rolds at bellsouth.net> Date: Wed, 14 Apr 2010 14:30:29 -0400 To: Eric Kuritzky <kuritzky at bellsouth.net> Subject: Re: [Florida Code Talk] Design by Contractor I'm sure glad your not in-charge.....the building departments are bad enough who also do not disscuss the cost.....how much do you charge for a 1200 sq ft home design....I bet over $5K. I can design one for less than $500 and contain the construction cost. How abut a home that will stand-up to 150+mph winds at the same cost of a track home? Well, the FRC and GHRRC will do that very thing, and without a design professional running the cost off the map......The taxpayers and builders of this state pays through the nose for the codes, yet the design professional advocate they are the only ones with enough knowledge to design.....I don't think so! I have had to pay thousands to an engineer to seal my drawings without making a change to them.....I call this Legal Thievery..... Really want to help the people???? Design in Safe Rooms, very simple to do and already designed and tested by FEMA......They will add under a grand if located in the rtight place within the structure...... ----- Original Message ----- > > From: Eric Kuritzky <mailto:kuritzky at bellsouth.net> > > To: codetalk at myfloridacode.com ; Building Officials Association of > Florida,Inc. <mailto:boafdiscussion at boaf.net> > > Sent: Wednesday, April 14, 2010 12:51 PM > > Subject: Re: [Florida Code Talk] Design by Contractor > > > And this is why the code should not exempt residential construction from > being designed by architect/engineers.
