Sorry for not replying sooner...but I did not have email this weekend. Answers to your questions are below. 1. Furniture plans were submitted for review. They show tables and seats that will be installed in both rooms (computer lab and art room). None of the furniture is stationary (fixed-in-place). 2. DP has no objection to posting a sign limiting the occupant load for each room. (He mentioned that.) 3. The art room is 1564 square feet and has a single means of egress. This is the largest classroom in the school. If occupant load is calculated at 20 square feet per person, 2 means of egress will be required from art room. However, if occupant load is calculated at 50 square feet per person, the single means of egress meets code. There is no problem with CPOT from the art room. Furniture plan provided by DP shows seating for only 24 students. (NOTE: This is a private school. SREF is not applicable to proposed construction.) -----Original Message----- From: Glen Mast [mailto:glenmast at comcast.net] Sent: Saturday, April 17, 2010 5:33 PM To: Rob Harrell; BOAF Discussion Group; CodeTalk Subject: Re: [Florida Code Talk] Occupant Loads (Educational) (FBCB Table1004.1.1) Rob: In general I agree with you however I can't see the plans like you can. So let me ask a few questions. (1) Do the plans show tables and seating layout? (2) Would the DP be willing to require a sign limiting the # of occupants? (3) Is the available egress so close to max that changing it to 1 person/20 sqft would put it over the edge? glen mast BTW, thanks for the DCA DEC statement updates, While many don't affect me that last one requested by Joe Belcher will be useful. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rob <mailto:rharrell1 at cfl.rr.com> Harrell To: BOAF Discussion Group <mailto:boafdiscussion at boaf.net> ; CodeTalk <mailto:codetalk at myfloridacode.com> Sent: Friday, April 16, 2010 6:47 AM Subject: [Florida Code Talk] Occupant Loads (Educational) (FBCB Table1004.1.1) Educational occupancy for K-5 with rooms designated as Computer Lab and Art Room. Design professional indicates that occupant loads for these rooms are based on 50 square feet/person. DP contends that they are the same as "shop and other vocational areas" mentioned in Table 1004.1.1 of FBCB. I believe that occupant loads should be calculated the same as other classrooms...20 square feet/person...based on intended use and age of children using the rooms. (Really a stretch to call these rooms shops or vocational areas.) What say ye? Any and all replies will be greatly appreciated. I hope that you will share your opinions with discussion group...but feel free to reply directly to me. Thanks.
