Do you mean a Studor vent?
If I remember correctly they are allowed as long as they are not the first vent in a riser.
Been a few years since I spec'd one.

  Are auto vents allowed in residential kitchen plumbing applications (like islands)?  Seems like I remember they are allowed in commercial and not residential or vice versa.  If so, is this the best option for venting an island sink?
