Townhouses are "considered separate properties" : They have separate property lines and separate parcel numbers.   The required 2 hour separation walls are required between the units to the underside of the roof area or above the roof depending on the design.  In addition, one layer of 5/8" type "X"  directly applied to the ceiling trusses or rafters is not an approved or listed 2 hour rated separation construction.

Will applying one layer of 5/8" type (X) gypsum on the ceiling, work for
the 2 hour separation on a townhouse and having the attic separated with
draft stop between units?
