SHOWDOWN TOMORROW! SAVE YOUR ABILITY TO PERFORM HOME INSPECTIONS AND MOLD ASSESMENT/REMEDIATION SERVICES AS A GENERAL, BUILDING OR RESIDENTIAL CONTRACTORS. The Government Operations Appropriations Committee meets Friday morning, March 26, at 8 AM to discuss House bill 713 with the companion Senate bill 1330. If we are not successful in stopping or amending this bill, we as contractors will lose the ability to perform the home inspection services and mold assessment / remediation services in the manner we have been performing them without problem since our license categories were created. We will be in the position of having to spend the next year trying to "beg back" amendments to restore the rights that we currently have - and are about to loose. My last discussion with a representative was that "he had not heard much objection by way of contractors calling in" Let's fix that! I urge you all to CALL and E-MAIL the following representatives sometime TODAY or tonight and let them know your outrage with this legislation. Tell them to simply add the text to the bill outlined at www.myFloridacode.com/legislation (suggested content for you e-mail is at the bottom of the page) These simple lines of text exempt us from each of the three categories; home inspector, mold assessor and mold remediator. This was what was promised to us at the very outset by the department and their representatives and we ask no more than they honor their commitment . If they implement these simple lines of text, home inspectors will become licensed as planned, mold assessors and remediators will become licensed as planned, and no contractor will lose their ability to perform the services in the manner which they have been performing all along. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO CALL AND EMAIL THESE REPRESENTATIVES TODAY - FRIDAY WILL TOO LATE! Rep. Hayes 352-742-6441 alan.hays at myfloridahouse.gov Rep. González: 305-364-3066 eddy.gonzalez at myfloridahouse.gov Rep. Williams: 850-488-1798 alan.williams at myfloridahouse.gov Rep. Abruzzo: 561-791-4774 joseph.abruzzo at myfloridahouse.gov Rep. Workman: 321-757-7019 ritch.workman at myfloridahouse.gov Suggested text for your email: (in your "Subject" line put: HB 713). **** Please amend HB 713 with the following (or similar) language that exempts State Certified Division 1 Contractors... 468.831 Exemptions.--The following persons are not required to comply with any provision of this part: Add the following paragraph: (6) any individual or firm certified as a Division 1 contractor under Florida Statute 489. 468.841 Exemptions.- (1) The following persons are not required to comply with any provisions of this part relating to mold assessment: Add the following paragraph: (f) any individual or firm certified as a Division 1 contractor under Florida Statute 489. (2) The following persons are not required to comply with any provisions of this part relating to mold remediation: Add the following paragraph: (f) any individual or firm certified as a Division 1 contractor under Florida Statute 489. If these changes are not made, the citizens of the State of Florida will bear the burden of increased costs (especially after a hurricane) and the Contractors of the State of Florida will suffer job losses immediately as a result of reduction of their current scope of services. Competition will be greatly reduced and costs increased to the consumer since no one providing these services after the bill's effective date will be able to perform both repair and reports when performing home inspection services nor will anyone be able to perform mold investigation and remediation services on the same project. This is being implemented with fulll knowledge that the industry has been doing these combined service without problems or incidences since licensure enactment under F.S. 489. If the above simple changes are implemented, home inspectors will become licensed as planned, mold assessors and remediators will become licensed as planned, and no contractor will lose the ability to perform the services in the manner which they have been performing all along - We all win!
